Mighty Max Survives Corpus

I found this at an Op Shop a year or two ago for only $1. I used to love these toys. I had dozens of the larger size ones as well as the really big play set ones. I sold them all to my house cleaner for money to buy Star Wars toys instead. Pretty annoyed about that now because these toys were heaps of fun.

Each set is usually a head of a monster of some description which folds open with several tiny figures inside. The inside forms an interactive play set with various traps and other moving parts which were quite fun. This one in particular is only a small one so it is pretty dull but makes me nostalgia pretty hard.

This is why Mario wears a hat

I found this large claw machine Mario doll at an op shop today. I now understand why Mario wears a hat. I’m aware that the original pixel Mario had a hat because it was easier than animating his hair. And that he still had hair in Super Mario 64 in those sections where he loses his hat, though he was weaker without it, thus the need for it. But why does he continue to wear it in other games like Mario Tennis and Mario Golf? To cover his receding hairline. I guess he hasn’t aged well in the past 25 years. Surely he should be at least 50 by now.

Creepy Mario Brick Bear

I bought this a few years ago in a clothing store. I think it was a smaller store attached to Episode on Sydney road. I think it cost between $12-15 but was most definitely worth it.

A picture of this monstrosity has been my avatar on palgn ever since. For some reason you can buy hundreds of figures in this shape that are painted with different colours and patterns and some are designed to resemble copyrighted characters. I believe they are known as brick bears. Probably because when you see them you want to smash them to pieces with a brick. I might be wrong though.

Raving Rabbids Soccer Statue

These came out a month or two prior to the 2010 World Cup for Soccer. They were originally around $15 but I got this on sale for $8 from GAME. I think they may have even cleared them out for as low as $4 but I can’t remember. I guess since most people who like soccer video games seem to be pretty casual gamers who don’t collect toys or perhaps they are not too familiar with the Rabbids since most people seem to use Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles which have not seen near as many Rabbid games as the Wii has.

It is also possible that people saw sticking the Australian flag on it as being tacky, since it now looks more like a cheap tourist souvenir item rather than a serious collectable.

However the figure/ statue itself seems to be of a pretty good quality and material.

Being made by Ubisoft it is probably available with other flags on it in other soccer playing countries since French people seem to like soccer. I guess that has a lot to do with why this unusual cross promotion / tie in / cash grab exists. I like it regardless. I wish I could get more big statues so cheap.

Hallmark Pacman Arcade Christmas Decoration

I got this Pacman arcade machine model Christmas decoration at a Hallmark store around Christmas 2008 I think. It was half price but still quite expensive, I think it was originally $20-30 USD.

Americans seem to take their Christmas decorations pretty seriously with these very detailed types of fancy decorations. This lights up and makes Pacman sounds when the buttons on it are pressed. It takes 3 watch batteries which now seem to be flat.

I actually noticed a display of expensive Hallmark Christmas decorations here in Australia at a Target store around Christmas 2010, but no video game related ones, mostly Disney or something else that didn’t interest me.

Donkey Kong arcade model

I found this at the Highpoint Gametraders store. It took me a long time to decide if I wanted it or not as it was something that would have come in handy for a video I am slowly currently making. As it now turns out I will have to reshoot that part anyway so it will come in handy.

This model appears to be homemade by someone out of plywood and stickers. It is deceptively light. There is some pixelation on the graphics on the stickers but it looks cool anyway.
